Description
After your weight loss surgery, you also receive less calcium, and your body cannot do without calcium! Calcium is an essential nutrient that contributes to maintaining strong bones and teeth and supports the normal functioning of your muscles. Elan has specially developed Calcium Vital tablets for people with weight loss surgery to supplement your daily needs. Calcium Vital contains calcium citrate because this form of calcium is well absorbed by your body. In addition, vitamin D3 has been added to the Calcium Vital tablets, as it increases calcium absorption in your bones. Calcium and vitamin D3 contribute to the maintenance of strong bones and teeth.
The required amount of calcium depends on your surgery. Based on internationally recognized guidelines from scientific associations (ASMBS and IFSO), we recommend taking at least 1,200 – 1,500 mg per day. It is also important to take a maximum of 500 mg of calcium at a time, allowing your body the opportunity and time to absorb the calcium taken. For the best advice after your surgery and in your personal situation, we recommend contacting your healthcare provider.
Calcium is not included in the WLS products (Compass, Believe, and Supreme products) from Elan because calcium hinders the absorption of iron.
Important
If you also use the Compass, Believe, or Supreme products from Elan, do not take the Calcium Vital tablets simultaneously with your Compass, Believe, or Supreme products. There should be at least 2 hours between taking these supplements to give your body enough time to absorb iron properly.
